The Ohio State basketball team didn’t have a lot of three-point shooting last season. Other than Jamison Battle, they didn’t have someone who could reliably knock down a deep shot. Scotty Middleton did start to hit some threes late in the season. Middleton is no longer with the Buckeyes, so that option is no longer available.

One of the things that Jake Diebler wanted to address this offseason was that exact issue. He went into the transfer portal to try to grab some players who are snipers. While he has mostly struck out in that endeavor, he actually has a sniper who is coming in as a freshman this season who should help that three-point shooting problem.

247Sports hands Ohio State basketball recruit a superlative

The highest-ranked recruit in Ohio State’s two-man recruiting class is Juni Mobley. He is a point guard that is coming from Utah. One of the things that he brings to the Buckeyes is being a good three-point shooter. In fact, he might be the best three-point shooter in the 2024 recruiting class.

Mobley is so good at shooting that he was given the superlative “The Sniper” by 247Sports. He’s someone that Diebler is going to need to use off the bench as a threat from outside. Once he starts making shots, it’s going to open up things for everything else. The Buckeyes will then be able to drive in the lane and get easy buckets at the rim.

Mobley shot over 50% from three as a senior in high school so he brings that sniper mentality right away. He’s undersized, so he has to have a good outside shot. That’s how he’s going to get his points. I expect him to get a lot of playing time right away as a freshman. He’s only going to get better once he gets some collegiate experience.
