Jets QB Joe Flacco compares WR Elijah Moore to former All-Pro Steve Smith

Steve Smith Sr. racked up five Pro Bowl honors, two First Team All-Pro nods and an AP Comeback Player of the Year award during his illustrious 16-year playing career. In November 2021, the 43-year-old was named a Pro Football Hall of Fame semifinalist.

During his final playing days with the Baltimore Ravens from 2014 to 2016, Smith Sr. shared the field with Joe Flacco, who's now with the New York Jets. Flacco discussed one of the Jets' young wideouts on Friday, saying Moore reminds him of the legendary undersized receiver.

With second-year signal-caller Zach Wilson on the mend from his recent knee surgery, Flacco seems to be "in line" to start Week 1 of the regular season against the Ravens. If Wilson remains out through mid-September, the 37-year-old will have a chance to prove head coach Roberth Saleh right, after the man at the helm said two weeks ago that Flacco "is a starting quarterback in this league."

If Flacco is to succeed with "Gang Green" for however long the 2021 No. 2 overall pick remains out, having Moore build on his rookie year would help. Despite only playing in 11 games last season the former Mississippi wideout led the Jets in targets (77), receiving yards (538) and receiving touchdowns (five), while finishing third in receptions (43) and adding one rushing score as well.
