NFL Legend Steve Smith Took On A Hilarious New Role
Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

Steve Smith Sr. is one former NFL player that knows a lot about catching balls.

He played 16 seasons in the league for the Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens.

By the time he retired, he had 1,031 receptions, 14,731 yards, and 81 touchdowns.

The Utah alumnus also has 4,055 yards and six return touchdowns.

Aside from winning the 2005 Comeback Player of the Year, Smith is also a two-time First-Team All-Pro and a one-time Second Team All-Pro.

Smith also earned five Pro Bowl selections.

In 2005, he won the wide receiver triple crown after leading the league in receptions, receiving yards, and catching touchdowns.

While he finished his career with the Ravens, the Panthers named him to their Hall of Honor.

Since retiring, Smith has been a broadcaster for the NFL Network.

But with the league days away from starting, he got another job during the preseason.

Smith served as a ball boy during the preseason game between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs.

However, he preferred to be called “K ball specialist” instead of ball boy.

If only he could turn back time, he would rather step into the field and play with the guys.

Records Held By Smith

The wide receiver holds the record for the highest punt return average in a single game with 51.

He achieved that feat on December 8, 2002, against the Cincinnati Bengals.

He also became the first rookie to make the Pro Bowl as a special teams player since Tyrone Hughes in 1993.

Smith also holds the Panthers’ franchise record for receptions, receiving yards, touchdowns, and yards per reception.

His 404 postseason yards in 2003 is also second-most in NFL history to Jerry Rice‘s 409 in 1988.

In 2008, Smith became the only player in history to lead the league in receiving yards even if their offense was last in pass attempts.
